The National Housing Law Project Celebrates President Jimmy Carter’s Legacy On Housing

WASHINGTON D.C.The National Housing Law Project (NHLP) today released the following statement by Executive Director Shamus Roller on the passing of President Jimmy Carter and his legacy on housing:

“President Jimmy Carter wanted all Americans to have a home. He understood that housing shapes peoples’ ability to take care of their families, make a good living, and be economically successful. As President, he saw housing as a core domestic policy issue and championed the role of the federal government in providing housing stability. He was determined to house people who need it the most, and was a steadfast advocate for public housing. For decades after his presidency, he volunteered with Habitat for Humanity to do his part as an individual.

“President Carter cherished the dignity of living in a safe, stable, and healthy home. We will live out his legacy by holding corporate landlords and private equity CEO’s accountable, fighting for a whole-of-government approach to fix the housing crisis, and protecting our freedom to live in a safe and affordable home.”
