Support NHLP
NHLP works closely with attorneys and organizers, helping them understand rapidly changing laws and new programs, and finding opportunities to provide housing stability to tenants and homeowners. NHLP and the Housing Justice Network played a key role in passing eviction moratoriums, designing rental assistance programs, and otherwise keeping people in their homes.
The housing challenges are evolving. Increasing rents are a major driver of inflation and evictions are going up following the end of pandemic protections. NHLP and our allies are pushing the Administration to take action. For too long, the government has promoted policies that drive up housing costs and subsidize Wall Street investors. It is past time for federal housing policy to serve the needs of all people.
Our fellowships and clerkships help us bring young attorneys into the housing justice movement. We are thrilled to host four law clerks this summer:
- Lily Jacobs, Harvard Law School
- Nathan Gandrud, University of San Francisco School of Law
- Isaiah Paik, UC Berkeley School of Law
- Sam Paler-Ponce, Loyola University Chicago School of Law
We established the David B. Bryson and the Sylvia M. Brennan Memorial Funds in 2006 to honor two former colleagues who were highly respected and well-loved by NHLP staff and fellow advocates in the Housing Justice Network. The David B. Bryson Fellowship provides one year of funding for a recent law school graduate to work as an attorney at NHLP. The Sylvia M. Brennan Fellowship pays stipends to our clerks, making our program more accessible to all students regardless of family situation. Past clerks and fellows have gone on to work in the California legislature, U.S. Senate, legal aid, and returned to NHLP as staff attorneys. Making systemic change through policy advocacy and organizing reflects the work that David and Sylvia did at NHLP to protect the rights of tenants and homeowners.
NHLP welcomes multi-year pledges of support. If you have any questions regarding the funds, pledges or would like to discuss any other giving options including planned gifts, bequests, gifts of stock or equities, please contact: Lorin Bond (lbond@nhlp.org).
