
NHLP conducts and participates in webinars on housing issues. Webinars that are sponsored by NHLP, or in which our staff participates, are announced on this website under upcoming Webinars. Participants in live webinars may be charged a nominal fee to reimburse our costs. Webinars sponsored by NHLP are typically recorded and archived and accessible for viewing by housing advocates. Some of the archived webinars are only accessible to HJN members.
MCLE Credit for Participation in Live Webinars. California attorneys participating in live NHLP sponsored webinars are eligible to receive MCLE credits for the sessions. Attorneys in other states may also receive MCLE credit for live participation in webinars depending on their state’s MCLE reciprocity rules. Attorneys from other states are requested to read MCLE Credits Outside California, before requesting our assistance in securing such credits. MCLE credits cannot be obtained through NHLP for listening to Archived Webinars.

This webinar, held on June 29, 2010, provides an overview of HUD’s Section 3 obligations and its current efforts to increase economic opportunities for Section 3 residents and businesses, as well as a presentation regarding San Francisco’s program to implement Section 3 and a related local “first source” ordinance. Presenters included Staci Gilliam Hampton from HUD and Ken Nim and Ronnie Rhoe from the City of San Francisco. NHLP Senior Staff Attorney Catherine Bishop moderated the webinar.

Webinar for Section 3: How does it Work and What's New? (Round II)
This second NHLP Section 3 webinar, presented on July 7, 2010, provides information on the Fort Lauderdale Housing Authority’s implementation of Section 3 and its “Step Up” program and the role of project labor agreements in advancing Section 3-based targeted hiring efforts in construction, as well as a discussion of filing a HUD complaint for noncompliance with Section 3 and the voluntary compliance agreement between the City of St. Paul and HUD. Presenters included Scott Strawbridge from the Fort Lauderdale PHA, Benjamin Beach from the Community Benefits Law Center, and NHLP Senior Staff Attorney Catherine Bishop.

Webinar for Lenders on Protecting Tenants at Foreclosure Act (PTFA)
The Protecting Tenants at Foreclosure Act (Pub. L. No. 111-22) requires that persons or entities that take title to residential property at foreclosure honor the existing tenants' lease and give at least 90 days notice to vacate if they want the property empty.
The presenters at this webinar, which was held on September 22, 2009, discuss the background, substance and implications of the PTFA and how Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are implementing the law. They share their insights into the federal regulators’ responses, the process of managing rental properties when existing occupants remain in properties after foreclosure, and other issues.
